A small turned wooden mug, made of linden, completely tinted with natural stain. It has a carved pattern in the stylization of a Finnish travel mug for tea. The cup is fully functional and can be used for both cold and hot drinks.
The drawing was applied by hand in the style of geometric Siversky carving. This type of carving comes from the town of Novgorod-Siversky (Ukraine) and a territory called Sivershchyna. This territory has long united the culture of the Slavs and Scandinavian tribes.
The patterns in this carving are based on simple figures combined into more complex shapes. For a long time, such figures as a circle, triangle, rhombus, square symbolized the elements of the Earth. For example, a circle is a symbol of the Sun and fire. But also a circle can mean the continuity of being and eternity.
A circle with two superimposed crosses (straight and oblique) symbolizes the masculine (the symbol of the Creator) and the feminine (the symbol of the Month) beginnings. Their superposition creates an octahedral star – a symbol of the unification of two principles – the meeting of the Earthly and the Heavenly.
