Kosiv painted pottery is a traditional Hutsul folk craft. Kosiv is a city in the Ivano-Frankivsk region (Ukraine). This region is rich in clay, so pottery has been developing here since ancient times.
Steps of creating Kosiv pottery
First, the ceramic is covered with white clay and dried.
Then it has its first firing in a pottery kiln.
After this, the product is painted with green, brown, yellow, rarely blue paints.
Then it is covered with a transparent glaze and fired a second time.
On December 13, 2019, Kosiv hand-painted pottery was included in the UNESCO Representative List of the 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆. This technique is 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲 in the world.
