A small hand-painted cup is perfect for a morning coffee, afternoon tea, and maybe even a warm wine. It has an original irregular shape as if it looks in a distorting mirror or was made by masters of surrealism. Or maybe the potter has his own version, which will remain a secret for us, but nobody forbade fantasizing.
Features of Kosiv ceramics
The cup is made on a potter’s wheel and burned in the oven. It is painted using an old technique in the style of Kosiv ceramics, known since the 15th century. This style appeared in the city of Kosiv (Ukraine) and continues to develop in our time. These ceramics are characterized by such colors as yellow, green, brown, and very rarely blue.
The style is based on geometric and natural motives. The craftsmen are inspired by the surrounding nature of the foothill city. But they also use simple shapes and colors of multicultural elements: earth, fire, air, water. Thus, a cup in the style of Kosiv ceramics carries universal symbols and wishes for prosperity and harmony.
In 2019 Kosiv painted ceramics were added to the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Clay cups with ethnic motives can become a special gift for lovers of ethnic tableware and handmade ceramics. We believe that new inspiration comes with a new cup.
