This spoon is made according to the type of spoons found during archaeological excavations near the city of Berestechko. It is a city in the Volyn region of Ukraine. Such spoons were used by Ukrainian Cossacks in the 17th century.
A distinctive feature of the spoon is the carved ornament on the handle, which consists of joining triangles and straight lines. These are typical figures for the geometric carving.
It is worth mentioning that artistic woodworking is one of the oldest types of decorative arts of the Slavs. It reached its highest development just at the time of the Cossack state in the 17th-18th centuries.
Modern masters revive and popularize ancient techniques, improve them, thus preserving the cultural heritage.
