A cup of the classical form of a hemisphere, hand-painted in the style of Kosiv ceramics. Motives of the drawing consist of traditional elements, geometric shapes, and floral motives of the Hutsul culture. Such painted ceramic has artistic value, but at the same time, it can be used in everyday life.
Thanks to the hand-made technique, each cup has a unique pattern and sometimes even a shape, so it can become a special gift for a special friend.
History of Kosiv ceramics
The homeland of these ceramics is the city of Kosiv, the Ivano-Frankivsk region of Ukraine. It began to gain popularity in the 18th century, not only in Ukraine but also abroad.
Manufacturing features
Like all Kosiv ceramics (dishes, ceremonial items, toys, and tiles), this cup is made from local clay, covered with a layer of creamy-white clay, on which a graphic outline of the drawing is formed with a metal stick. Then the cup is fired and painted with traditional colors – green, yellow, brown. Next, the clay cup fired again. During the second firing, the green dye spreads create the watercolor effect.
Interesting fact
Due to its original technique, Kosiv ceramics are included in the UNESCO list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
